8. HOW TO: Renew Lessons

Introduction

Due to licencing restrictions, lessons that are stored on a DVD are set to expire after one year. If your music service still holds a licence to use the resources you can easily update the Lesson Viewer and all your lessons. There are a number of ways to do this:

  • Updating the Lesson Viewer
  • Renewing your Lessons
  • Copying from a new DVD

Please note that you will need to have installed the Lesson Viewer on your hard drive in order to carry out these steps. See this article for information on installing the Lesson Viewer

Updating the Lesson Viewer

1

In order to ensure that your Lesson Viewer has all the latest features and bug fixes it is recommended that you regularly check for updates. Updating the Lesson Viewer only affects the program itself, and does not renew your lessons.

1) Once you've signed in to the Lesson Viewer, click on the Get Help button at the top of the screen.

2

2) This page shows your current Lesson Viewer version number, and the version number of the most recent update. If the update is more recent than your version, click on the Update button next to "Launch a Full Lesson Viewer Update". This will close the Lesson Viewer and open the update program. If a new update is available it will download and install it. Your Lesson Viewer may restart during this process.

Renewing your Lessons

There are two options for renewing lessons that you have copied from a DVD. You can either renew each module individually, or, if you have been given a new DVD, you can import it and automatically renew all your lessons.

a. Renew Individual Modules

3

To renew modules individually, click the Renew All button on the module page. You will need to repeat this process for each module.

4

Lessons in the My Downloaded Lessons folder can be renewed by clicking the Renew button on the lesson name, or by clicking the Renew All button at the bottom-left of the screen.

b. Import From DVD

5

If you have been given a new DVD, you can update all your modules by re-importing them into your Lesson Viewer. This process is simpler than updating each module individually, but takes longer as the whole DVD has to be copied to your hard drive.

To start the import process, click on the import

6

Select Import from DVD/Folder. In the dialog that appears, select your computer's DVD drive and click OK.

The import process will then begin. Please allow several hours for all content to be imported.

Copy from a new DVD

You can update both the Lesson Viewer program and all your modules by copying the files directly from the DVD. This process simply involves dragging the relevant files and folders from the DVD into the Lesson Viewer folder on your computer's hard drive. This overwrites all of your modules with the newer versions, but doesn't affect any lessons you have downloaded from the website.

7

1) Navigate to the folder containing the Lesson Viewer on your hard drive. It should contain two folders and a file, named _cha5513, resource library and lesson viewer.

8

2) In a new window, go to My Computer and select your DVD drive. You should see the same three items as in step 1.

3) Select the three items from the DVD and drag them into the folder opened in step 1. You may be asked if you wish to overwrite any files - select Yes if this occurs.

The copy process can take several hours to complete due to the volume of resources that are being copied from the DVD. When it has finished all your modules will have been renewed, and your Lesson Viewer program will be up to date. Please note that any lessons that you have downloaded from the internet will need to be manually updated.
